For Immediate Release:
Contact: Dan Barton

Lifting Gear Hire has announced plans to expand further in the Eastern United Sates in an effort to better serve its growing customer base. First planned is added Sales Representation in the Southeast, based in Tampa, Florida – Effective January 2009. Second is its 11th warehouse. Lifting Gear Hire will open its newest distribution center in Philadelphia, PA in 2009.

While Lifting Gear Hire has an existing warehouse in Pittsburgh, PA, the new facility will reduce delivery time and transportation costs for customers in Northeastern Pennsylvania, as well as New Jersey and New York and other surrounding states. The Philadelphia Warehouse will allow same-day or overnight delivery to locations in the new area.

“The demand for equipment in LGH’s product line, as well as reduced delivery time and costs have resulted in the need for an additional facility to support an already growing area and to stock a full range of LGH products and capacities,” explained Tony Fiscelli, General Manager of Lifting Gear Hire Corporation’s U.S. Headquarters, located in Bridgeview, Illinois. “The expansion out east will allow us to better serve our clients because we will simply have the space to feature our entire product range and to accommodate our customers' equipment service needs.”

Lifting Gear Hire Corporation has initiated plans to expand in Minneapolis and Atlanta as well. More information on this expansion will be available later in 2009.

Lifting Gear Raises the Bar Once Again

Lifting Gear Hire has made available a piece of rental equipment that provides for the safest and most controlled lifting of large structures.

Known as a Sync Lift, the innovative product manufactured by Enerpac uses information to control the lifting, lowering and positioning of any heavy or large structure, including bridges and buildings, regardless of weight distribution. The computer-operated Sync Lift ensures all points are lifted in unison and at the same speed, thereby reducing the danger of bending, twisting and tilting. By eliminating manual intervention in the lifting event, the Sync Lift preserves structural integrity, increases the rate of productivity and most importantly, enhances the safety for all those involved.

The Sync Lift, featuring a user-friendly touch screen and digital sensors to provide load readouts by lifting point, has up to eight lifting points and is capable of executing anywhere from 1 to 1,000 tons per lifting point, based on the type of pump cylinders used.

Lifting Gear Hire Expands Capabilities with New Equipment

Building on its reputation as a pioneer in safety and technological capabilities, Lifting Gear Hire Corporation recently acquired horizontal and vertical proof testing machines that will enable it to test among the heaviest pulling and lifting hardware in the construction industry.

The 125,000-pound Dynamic Vertical Proof Testing Machine and 300,000-pound Dynamic Horizontal Proof Testing Machine, both custom-manufactured by Chant Engineering, dramatically increases the testing capabilities of hoists, slings, shackles, winches and general rigging equipment.

The vertical proof testing machine is capable of dual-load range testing, while the 72-foot horizontal testing machine is fully equipped with a computer, software and fixtures for winch mounting.

Today, OSHA is requiring more and more construction equipment to undergo testing in order to be certified for safety purposes, and Lifting Gear Hire’s new proof testing machines help in that ongoing effort.

“This will enable us to provide more accurate load testing on all our rental items as well as provide an added service to our customers,” Lifting Gear Hire General Manager Tony Fiscelli said. “You can be assured that our capable and safe equipment is tested, certified and examined every time it goes out the door.”

By possessing the capability to test such large equipment, Lifting Gear Hire is able to diagnose problems with pulling and lifting tools, thereby enhancing safety for its customers.

“The new machines give us a real good insight into how the product is holding up,” said Lifting Gear Hire National Director of Safety and Training Izzy De Jesus.

In addition to Lifting Gear Hire better testing its own equipment with the new machines, the company is expanding services by allowing it to test and certify its customers’ equipment. In the near future, Lifting Gear Hire will make certification information available on line exclusively to its customers. This service will not only ensure customers have access to important documentation at any time, but will inform them as to when equipment has to be re-certified.

740 Tons... A New Record!

Lifting Gear Hire Corporation, specialists in rental, sales and service of all types of lifting, winching and material handling equipment, have ordered two container loads of Modulift spreaders, including Mods 24, 50, 110, 110H and 400.

The Modulift 400 is part of the super heavy range which comprises of four sizes of Modulift spreaders. They have a maximum span of 45 metres and maximum capacity of 2000 tonnes and are used with many of the largest cranes available today including the Terex Demag CC8800-1.

LGH recently provided two Mod 400s for a record breaking lift on the Elizabeth River in Virginia, USA for its customer, Advanced Automation Technologies. The lift, organised by LGH’s Houston agent was of a 740 US ton Portal Whirler crane using a Chesapeake 1000 barge crane with the Mod 400s and 2” by 40ft gator laid top slings. The Whirler crane was transported 18 miles down the river to the customer site, where the Modulift was again used to lift it into position. This lift was the heaviest handled by a Modulift supplied by LGH in the USA so far.

“The benefit of Modulift’s flexibility sets the system apart from standard, fixed length spreaders. Modulift provides a vast number of spreader beam configurations, suitable for all kinds of lifting projects, leading the system to become a popular and valuable addition to our existing range of lifting equipment.

With the introduction of Modulift we can provide our customers with more efficient and cost effective solutions. Our latest order means we will have a total of 45 Modulift spreaders available,” comments Tony Fiscelli, General Manager of Lifting Gear Hire USA.

The Modulift range comprises 16 systems, which provide lifting capacity for weights between 2 – 3000 tonnes and lengths from 200mm – 53m. The system is used for the smallest maintenance work to the largest lifting jobs in many industry sectors. Modulift currently has sales and rental customers in the construction, maritime, offshore, oil & gas, industrial and aerospace industries. All utilise the modular system to enable the lifting of various loads, without the need to buy or rent new spreader beams for every different job.
